No disrespect to Snow White intended! Here's an excerpt
from my interview with Novel Sisterhood. If you want to read
the complete enchilada, it's posted at www.novelsisterhood.

NS: Have you ever found that you didn’t like your Hero or
your Heroine? If so, what did you do to change that?
Dana: Most of the time if I don’t like something about them,
it’s because there are behaving in a sappy “Snow White”
manner. Don’t get me wrong. I love Snow, but the woman
just sat around waiting to be rescued, sweeping cottages
and making tiny beds. Good golly. Heroines need to
rescue themselves for the most part. I try to make sure to
cut out the Snow White moments and this generally
improves my opinion of a character.
Dana Mentink has written a delightful tale built around an
unforgettable cast of characters. The writing is smooth
and interesting and her characters are well-developed
and engaging. Ruth and the detective handling the murder
case have both experienced tragedy. Mentink handles this
skillfully and with compassion. Her characters are not
“cookie cutter” facsimiles; they are real, well-developed
people that readers will identify with. “Trouble Up Finny’s
Nose” is a real winner. I highly recommend it, and I can
hardly wait for the next installment!
